We offer flying lessons to fly a microlight called the Thunderbird.
Home of the Thunderbird!!
We operate from Tarlton on the R24, halfway between Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg.
Davies Aircraft Corporation operate a professional Flight School where you can learn to fly the Thunderbird and obtain your Microlight Pilot’s Licence.
In 1985 the need for a high quality three-axis microlight aircraft in the South African market place was recognised. The Thunderbird microlight was born. The prototype proved very successful and the project went from strength to strength. The Thunderbird soon became TDE’s major focus and in 1988, it was decided to change their the company’s trading name to Davies Aircraft Corporation.
We have a highly reputable flight school. As the Thunderbird is a full three-axis aircraft with rudder, elevator, ailerons and flaps, not only are you guaranteed the best flying experience on the planet, but learning to fly the T-Bird will stand you in good stead should you wish to obtain a private pilots license or pursue a career in flying.
We have full time experienced instructors who teach the MPL curriculum. Ground school lectures are held in the evenings and students are provided with a Flight School Manual containing course notes.
Safety – This is our number one priority and all flight school aircraft are carefully checked and maintained on a regular basis. Constant radio contact is maintained with Grand Central airport who advise air traffic of the microlight activity over Bluehills.
OTHER INFORMATION
Qualification for the MPL requires a minimum of 30 hours flying but most students take about 35 hours to complete the license.
Conversions for Private Pilot’s License (PPL) and Commercial Pilot’s License holders are offered.
As the Thunderbird is a full three-axis aircraft, conversion is simple for private and Commercial pilots and typically requires approximately 2 hours briefing and 4 hours flying with an instructor.
Both the MPL and conversion can be obtained using either the student’s own aircraft or one of the schools aircraft.
